In the last few years, there has been growing a movement in travel that has slowly but steadily taken over the world, glamping. As one of the hottest international destinations in the world, Cancún and Riviera Maya have taken notice of this movement and have developed a very solid glamping offer for its visitors.

However, let’s start from the beginning. What is glamping?

What Is Glamping?

The term glamping itself has the key to understand what does this movement is all about, as it is a clever mix of the words “glamour” and “camping”. So, there you have it, in its most essential way, glamping is a travel experience that provides the camping-like contact with nature but with the added luxuries that a modern traveler is used to get when visiting top-notch destinations around the world.

In other words, "glamping is all about making your camping experience comfy and luxurious". Nature is still there in all its glory, but you don’t have to sleep on the hard floor, pee on a tree, or bath in a river or take a cold shower. In a way, glamping is a movement aimed for those who weren’t all that crazy about camping for all those little annoyances that camping may present, by making it more attractive and comfortable.

Why Should You Glamp?

When talking about Cancun and the Riviera Maya, I’m sure you’re aware that this spectacular corner of the world is home to one of the most amazing mixes of natural wonders in the planet. From the turquoise-blue waters of the Caribbean Sea to the unique underground system of rivers known as cenotes, all surrounded by the extraordinarily lush tropical forest of the Yucatan Peninsula and the real question asks itself: why would you want to be away from all this nature secluded in a five-star resort?

Cinco Tulum

Because glamping in the Riviera Maya not only includes snorkeling and scuba diving opportunities in mystical underground cenotes, but also plenty of wellness amenities such as yoga lessons under the trees, temazcal sessions, organic permaculture farms, and all kinds of natural spa treatments.

Types of Glamping

Glamping come in many different flavors and expressions. You can glamp in treehouses and teepees, airstreams and trailers, cabins, tents, barns and farmhouses, geodesic domes and cubes and pods, huts and cottages, Mongolian-like yurts, glamtainers, as well as wagons and shepherd huts.

Actually you can even glamp in luxury villas, so the possibilities are endless, but what are the options available for the discerning traveler in Cancun and the Riviera Maya?
